Подавляющее большинство пожилых пациентов являются полиморбидными, чаще болеют и больше нуждаются в медицинском обеспечении. Каждое из имеющихся заболеваний требует постоянной лекарственной терапии, вследствие чего возрастает риск развития нежелательных лекарственных реакций от принимаемых препаратов. Также необходимо учесть, что пожилые пациенты более чувствительны к возникновению серьёзных нежелательных лекарственных реакций и взаимодействий.

Most elderly patients have polymorbidity, have more frequent illnesses, and greater medical care needs. Each of the existing diseases requires constant drug therapy, thus increasing the risk of developing adverse drug reactions from the medications taken. It is also necessary to consider that elderly patients are more susceptible to the occurrence of serious adverse drug reactions and drug-drug interactions.
