Известно, что около 80% пожилых людей страдают хроническими заболеваниями. Пожилые люди чаще болеют, имеют, как правило, не одно хроническое заболевание и чаще нуждаются в медицинском обеспечении. В случае, когда каждое из имеющихся заболеваний требует постоянной лекарственной терапии, в несколько раз возрастает риск развития неблагоприятных эффектов от принимаемых препаратов. Кроме того, пожилые пациенты более чувствительны к возникновению серьезных нежелательных явлений и лекарственных взаимодействий.
