Все данные о побочных эффектах ПЭП-II получены из контролируемых клинических исследований. По сравнению с препаратами первого поколения (ПЭП-I), у большинства ПЭП-II намного меньше побочных эффектов, связанных со стимуляцией или торможением активности ферментов, например, когнитивные, гормональные и другие. Это упрощает терапию и улучшает комплаентность больных, что абсолютно необходимо для успешного ведения больных с парциальной или генерализованной эпилепсией. ПЭП-II расширяют арсенал средств лечения и являются новым шагом в оптимизации индивидуальной терапии эпилепсии.
