Среди антигистаминных средств второго поколения выделяется Эбастин, отличный по своему строению. Отли­чие основано на структуре оксипиперидина - прототипа одного из антигистаминных средств первого поколения (дифенилпиралина). Эбастин имеет химическую формулу С32fl3NO2, его молекулярная масса равна 469,64.

В действительности главным действующим лекарственным веществом, проявляющим фармакологическую ак­тивность, является карбоксилированный метаболит эбастина - каребастин.

Для создания эбастина через атом азота в структуре дифенилпиралина к пиперидиновому кольцу была присоеди­нена длинная алифатическая боковая цепь, что обеспечило большую продолжительность действия, низкую стимули­рующую активность в отношении центральных Н-гистаминовых рецепторов, безопасность для сердечно-сосудис­той системы.
